Police have identified the man who died on Vinalhaven Sunday night as 28-year-old Roger Feltis, who moved to the island from Waldoboro a few months ago.

Feltis’ body was taken to Augusta on Monday for an autopsy. A cause of death has not yet been released.

No arrests have been made in connection to his death.

Maine State Police spokesperson Stephen McCausland declined to say if the death was being investigated as a homicide, only that police are continuing their investigation.

Police responded to the island around 10 p.m. Sunday night after receiving a report of a man bleeding from the neck and a woman with a partially severed hand, according to the Courier Gazette. McCausland could not confirm that detail as of late Monday morning.

A woman was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center Sunday night for treatment and was released, McCausland said. He did not know the extent of her injuries.

A Knox County sheriff’s deputy was on Vinalhaven at the time of the incident. Additional officers, including Maine State Police detectives, were brought to the island by Maine Marine Patrol.

Detectives remained on the island all night and are continuing their investigation today, McCausland said.
