A driver involved in a serious, three-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Clifton on Tuesday morning suffered serious facial injuries, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The three-vehicle crash, which blocked traffic on Route 9, happened after a four-door sedan with two people headed east went over the centerline and struck a camper trailer at about 11:50 a.m. The camper came loose from its frame and went into the westbound lane.

The camper was being hauled by a truck occupied by two other people who were not injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

In addition to striking the camper, the sedan also hit a Chevrolet Suburban that had been traveling behind the camper. One of that vehicle’s two occupants was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the sedan’s female driver was taken to the hospital with facial injuries.

All cars were towed from the scene. Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies responding to the crash blocked off Route 9 beyond the intersection with Route 46.
