A man was found carrying his own arm that had been severed near the shoulder in Lewiston on Friday morning.

The man was seen on Maple Street at around 9 a.m. carrying the arm that was completely detached from his body, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

The man was reportedly injured after a workplace accident at AK Market located at 280 Park St. Police responders traced a blood trail from Maple Street to the business, the Sun Journal reported.

Public work crews that were present when the man was seen walking on Maple Street called police and rescue crews, and the man was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was admitted to surgery, according to the Lewiston newspaper.

The circumstances of the man’s injury are under investigation.
