On Feb. 13, 2021, Sen. Susan Collins voted to convict former President Donald Trump on the article of impeachment, which found that he “gravely endangered the security of the United States … threatened the integrity of the democratic system … betrayed his trust as President … [and] thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”
Less than a year later, on Jan. 30, on ABC News, she made a stunning reversal, refusing to rule out supporting Trump for president in 2024.
What’s her explanation? In the intervening year, Trump’s betrayal has become more obvious: He has admitted his involvement in months-long planning to steal the election, culminating in the violent attempt to overthrow our government.
