A Van Buren man was severely injured in a crash involving two tractor trailers on Friday morning in Orient.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., a collision between two tractor trailers was reported at the Amity and Orient town line, according to Sgt. Chadwick H. Fuller of Troop F of the Maine State Police.

One of the tractor trailer drivers was reportedly trapped in the vehicle after the crash.

James Walsh, 31, of Van Buren was northbound in a 2021 Western Star 4900 SF tractor trailer on Route 1, and crossed into the southbound lane, according to Fuller.

Larry Belanger, 66, of Mapleton, was southbound in a 2014 Peterbilt 388 tractor trailer and attempted to avoid Walsh’s oncoming vehicle, but struck the Western Star head-on, Fuller said.

Belanger received minor injuries in the crash.

Walsh was taken by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the person who was taken by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. James Walsh was badly injured and transported after the Friday crash.
