A quarterfinal game between No. 6 Cheverus and No. 3 Portland came down to the final seconds.
The Cheverus boys trailed 42-41 and had possession of the ball with just 4.3 seconds left.
The shot by Silvano Ismail, lofted from beyond the 3-point line just before time expired, secured the 44-42 win for the Stags.
Cheverus improves to 9-9 on the season and will advance to the AA North semifinals, where it will face the winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal between No. 8 Windham at No. 1 Edward Little.
Portland ends its season 11-8.
Portland defeated Deering 51-50 in the 2019 AA North quarterfinals with a similar play that sent them to the semifinals.
