The  recent BDN article by Sawyer Loftus about “Mainers react to higher electric bills with shock and frustration” was very good. It highlights a problem that is going to be ongoing for Mainers – high electric bills. If we continue to install very expensive solar and wind power, I think it can only result in higher costs. I notice that this surfaced after the rejection of the Central Maine Power corridor.

My question is, what did the people that voted against it expect to happen? Without hydropower, the cost of power is going to continue to rise. People have one of two choices: increase their income or decrease their usage. Now that many have moved toward heat pumps and electric vehicles, there is only one way the electric bill is going to go and that is up. Oh and by the way, I think that if the state takes over the power delivery people can expect their bills to double.
