I am grateful for the 13 years I had the honor of working with James Doughty. My admiration and respect for him as an educator and as a person know no limit.

Jim left a position he enjoyed at the University of Maine to return to his hometown and take on the challenge of being the superintendent of schools in Bangor. His success has been well documented, but there is another side of Jim that few people saw.

He was a kind and compassionate man who would do whatever he could to help people, especially members of his staff. I personally know of a number of people he assisted. Most of them never knew it was he who intervened. He never sought credit for himself in any arena. He was an exceptional person who will be sorely missed.
