For the first time in eight years, the Portland Sea Dogs are headed to the postseason.

The Sea Dogs clinched a spot in the playoffs on the road Wednesday night with their 12-7 win over the Somerset Patriots.

Portland and Somerset will meet in a best-of-three divisional championship beginning Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. Game 2, and if needed, Game 3 will be in Somerset on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sea Dogs Manager Chad Epperson is excited about the matchup between the farm teams of the Red Sox and Yankees.

“You look at the schedule, and you start seeing Somerset at the end, who obviously is a big rival from our parent club all the way down through our system, so you kind of had an idea that it was going to come down to this if we were going to be in it, and sure enough here we are,” Epperson said.
