North Main Street in Brewer was closed temporarily due to fallen power lines this morning.

The power lines fell onto North Main Street, also known as Route 9, near Holyoke Street following Sunday night’s storm, which brought high winds and heavy rain to Maine, according to the Brewer Police Department.

Versant Power sent a crew around 9 a.m. to make the area safe and allow traffic to resume through, according to company spokesperson Judy Long.

The Maine Department of Transportation established a detour at Route 46 in Eddington to Route 1A in Holden. Local traffic was allowed to use Chamberlain Street, but all trucks used the detour.

Versant Power may not be able to fix the power lines until Tuesday, Brewer police said.

Correction: An earlier version of this story published at 1 p.m. incorrectly stated that the road was still closed. Versant sent a crew around 9 a.m. and reopened the road.
