No injuries were reported on Thursday afternoon after an explosion went off in a truck parked near the Blaine House.

The explosion in a truck parked on Chamberlain Street was reported at around 2:30 p.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Witnesses saw smoke coming from the bed of a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that had been legally parked in the area near the back entrance to the Blaine House since around 7:30 a.m.

The witnesses saw smoke coming from the vehicle before the explosion occurred, Moss said. The truck was completely destroyed by a fire that overtook the vehicle after the explosion.

Officials were able to douse the fire by around 3 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

Although officials do not believe it was a targeted attack, an investigation is underway.
