HARTFORD, Maine – The death of a suspect in police custody is under investigation.

According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on Pratt Hill Road in Hartford at around 8:45 p.m. on Monday.

When officials arrived, 45-year-old Jacob Hackett was reportedly inside causing damage.

Deputies confronted Hackett, and he allegedly assaulted them.

Police say they then tased him and took him into custody, but the man suffered a medical event and was transported to a local hospital. Hackett died at the hospital. 

The Maine attorney general’s office is investigating Hackett’s death, and an autopsy will be conducted.
