A committee for the Casco Bay ferry service is meeting to discuss raising fares for their services.

Casco Bay Lines transports passengers throughout Casco Bay to places like Peaks Island, Diamond Cove and the Diamond Islands.

It has been 14 years since Casco Bay Lines increased passenger fares, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Right now, round-trip prices for passengers range between $7.70 to go to Peaks Island and $11.55 to get to Cliff Island.

“I think that the residents, people who own property out there, or reside there, it should be free back and forth,” Saco resident Marty Schindler said. “Now with this many people from away, who come and be visitors, they’re more than welcome to charge them and sort of subsidize the rest of us.”

The Press Herald reported the proposed increase could raise prices anywhere between 8 percent and 14 percent. That’s part of a budget that also could affect staffing and trip schedules.
