A Bangor man was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon after police say he threw a knife at someone from his car.

Richard Ramsdell, 48, allegedly threw a utility knife out of his vehicle at a person who was on the sidewalk, as he was driving down Main Street at about 2 p.m. Thursday.

The knife struck the victim in the head, causing them to fall to the ground, according to Bangor Police. The victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment.

Ramsdell was identified because he returned to the scene and talked to police. After he left, witnesses to the incident told investigators the man who just left was the one who threw the knife.

Police found Ramsdell, arrested him and brought him to Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, a class B felony.

Police did not say whether Ramsdell knew the victim.
