A Waterville man is accused of stealing a fuel truck in Winthrop, leading police on a chase and crashing into another vehicle before losing control of the truck, causing it to tip over onto its side.
Paul Hatch, 37, allegedly stole the fuel truck on Tuesday morning, according to the Sun Journal.
The truck was then spotted in Oxford, where police chased Hatch. The chase continued through Androscoggin and Kennebec counties before heading back to Winthrop.
That’s where Hatch allegedly hit the back of a truck hauling a cargo trailer. Police told the Sun Journal the impact caused Hatch to make an abrupt left turn onto Route 133, going in the wrong direction. He then lost control of the truck, which then flipped onto its side.
Hatch allegedly then tried to run away but was quickly taken into custody, according to the Sun Journal.
Hatch was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the crash, according to the Sun Journal.
