The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Winslow firefighter on suspicion of stealing from fire department accounts.

Shawn M. Stetson, 34, of Fairfield, is accused of stealing more than $12,000 from accounts held by the Winslow Firefighters Association.

An investigation by the association found several thousand dollars missing from various accounts and CDs. Members reported it to the Winslow Police Department.

Stetson, a member of the firefighters association who had access to the accounts, made cash withdrawals starting in February, 2023, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, which handled the investigation.

A sheriff’s office detective interviewed Stetson and arrested him on Jan. 2. His bail was set at $500.
