A utility truck went through the guardrails of Interstate 295 in Portland, Wednesday morning, and landed upside-down in Casco Bay.

Portland Police Department described the initial 9:57 a.m. report in a news release, saying the vehicle launched off Tukey’s Bridge, “traveled airborne over a walking path below, ultimately falling in excess of 30 feet vertically landing in a shallow portion of the ocean below.”

The three people in the truck were helped to shore by a Portland Water District employee, according to police. All three occupants were assessed by medical personnel, treated and brought to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police did not immediately say why the truck left the roadway. An investigation is being conducted by Maine State Police.
