U.S. Rep. Jared Golden’s Bangor office was vandalized with a spray paint message calling for a cease-fire.

The red spray paint on the window of the downtown office said, “Ceasefire now inshallah,” on Monday. It is likely calling for a cease-fire between Israel and Palestine, in which 24,000 people in Gaza have been killed, the Associated Press reported. About 1,200 people have died in Israel.

The graffiti ends with “inshallah,” a common Arabic saying that translates to “God willing.”

Bangor police are aware of the graffiti at 6 State St., Sgt. Jason McAmbley said. He declined to say if police were investigating.

“My support for Israel in its war against the terrorist organization Hamas remains unwavering, and will until every hostage taken from Israel is returned and Hamas’s military capabilities are fully dismantled such that they can no longer launch terrorist attacks against Israel and its allies,” Golden said.

A war broke out between Israel and Palestine following a surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7 by Hamas, a militant group. Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are displaced, while most of northern Gaza is under control by the Israeli military, according to the AP.

Seven protesters calling for a cease-fire were arrested in Golden’s office in November when they refused to leave. The charges were later dropped.
