An old Denny’s location in Portland is coming down, and something new is going up in its place.

The Maine Department of Transportation purchased the former Denny’s in the Libbytown neighborhood on outer Congress Street.

The Department of Transportation hired a contractor to tear down the Denny’s in the next month.

The demolition is part of a project to overhaul Libbytown, which will include a roundabout to slow traffic, according to the Department of Transportation’s website.

The goal of the project is to try to bring Libbytown closer to what it once was before Interstate 295 was built in the late 1960s.
