When I am appointed Ruler of the Known Universe, I am instituting a year-round parking ban, and it will be all Sarah Smiley’s fault.

I’m a huge fan of Ms. Smiley (couldn’t wait for the next Dinner with the Smileys column), but her recent OpEd about Bangor’s winter parking ban reminded me of our First World behavior.

Why do people walk in the street when a sidewalk is available (watch your feet instead of your phone, and all will be well)? Why do people park on the street when they have a driveway (creating a maze that the rest of us must weave around)? Why suggest you’d have to move out of Bangor because your driveway is too small for all your cars (this is when teenagers learn to shuffle cars like blocks in Tetris)?

Stay tuned for word of my appointment. There will also be rules about loud music in the backyard.
