A Portland man has been charged with stabbing a man in downtown Portland on Monday morning.
Portland Police received a report at 11:22 a.m. Monday of a stabbing at 5 Portland St., the address of a day shelter. There they found a 36-year-old man lying on the ground with an apparent stab wound. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening, and the man was brought to Maine Medical Center.
Police found the suspected assailant a little over an hour later at 1 City Center.
After a brief struggle, police arrested Eliot-James Nelson, 33, of Portland and charged him with aggravated assault, refusal to submit to arrest or detention and two counts of violating conditions of release.
He was brought to Cumberland County Jail where he is being held without bail.
