A 19-year-old was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 95 in Augusta on Monday morning.

The Newcastle man appeared to have been northbound in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma before losing control of the vehicle near mile marker 113 and crashing into the median before striking a tree at around 7:27 a.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

The driver was transported via LifeFlight to the Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Officials believe speed and inclement road conditions were factors in the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash can contact Trooper Keith Barton at 207-624-7076.
