I’d like to suggest that the chickadee plate (formerly the standard, soon to be replaced and discontinued) be made a “specialty plate” as an option to full elimination. I’ve had mine for more than 25 years and appreciate its significance in depicting the Maine state bird and the very realistic artwork!

I understand that around 900,000 plates must eventually be replaced and opting for folks paying the fee for a specialty plate would most certainly reduce the amount of state intervention and provide convenience for those who do not wish to go through the hassle of plate replacement.

I have not read that this option has been considered and would hope it could be. The exchange of plates also causes even more inconvenience if one wants to keep their personal “vanity plate” nomenclature.
