A man was hospitalized with severe injuries on Thursday after firefighters pulled him from a burning mobile home in the Colonial Pines park on outer Ohio Street in Bangor.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 12:10 p.m., according to the Maine Department of Public Safety. Firefighters arrived to find a 75-year-old man in the burning trailer and pulled him out.
The victim, who was not identified by authorities as of Thursday evening, was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center, then transferred by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Chandler Corriveau, an assistant Bangor fire chief, said the man is likely in critical condition.
“We gave this person the absolute best fighting chance that they could get,” he said.
Police later said a second man, who also lived at the home, was not injured. They did not say if he was home at the time of the fire.
The fire burned through the mobile home, leaving the support beams visible on about half of the trailer. A burned propane tank was on the lawn behind the home. Siding on a neighboring mobile home was melted in the fire, but the home should be able to be restored, Corriveau said. The Maine fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire, he added.
There were about 10 mobile homes in the Colonial Pines park at the time of the fire. The park had 34 pads with approvals to nearly double in size as of late 2019, according to a real estate listing.
At that time, the park was sold by a Waterville-based firm to a newly formed company. It is managed by the Bangor-based Maine Real Estate Management, state records show.
