This letter communicates the decision of the members of the Hancock County Democratic Committee at a meeting held on Feb. 15, 2024, in support of the following statement on hostilities in Israel and Gaza beginning Oct. 7, 2023:

We are appalled by the brutal attack and atrocities committed by Hamas in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. We are also appalled by the ensuing hostilities in Gaza. While respecting the right of Israel to defend itself, the cycle of inhumanity must cease and the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians must end. President Joe Biden negotiated the first ceasefire in November, and we urge his strongest efforts to stand firm against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Cabinet to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire. We call on all parties to quickly end acts of war in order to establish the peace that allows for meeting the manifest humanitarian needs and negotiations that create the conditions that allow Israelis and Palestinians to live with dignity, peace and safety.
