If there’s ever a time to not try to get there from here, it’s during a nor’easter.
Authorities warned Mainers to stay off the road unless there’s no other choice during the nor’easter that moved into the state Wednesday night.
But not everyone heeded those warnings, and since 7 p.m. Wednesday, there have been about 46 crashes and slide offs on the interstate system and turnpike, according to the Maine State Police.
“[I]f you do not need to travel to please stay off the roads. If you do please use extreme caution, drive slow and leave plenty of room between you and the car ahead of you,” the state police said Thursday afternoon.
The state police warned that the snowfall can quickly increase in intensity, leading to deteriorating road conditions that plow drivers can struggle to keep up with.
The nor’easter, which is expected to linger over Maine into Friday, is forecast to drop a foot or more of snow across much of the state, while the winds left more than 340,000 without power by early Thursday afternoon.
