Acadia National Park’s Loop Road will soon open again to vehicles.
The National Park Service will allow vehicles on the Park Loop Road starting Monday.
Pedestrians also will be allowed to trod again on the carriage roads.
Acadia’s historic carriage roads closed early this year because of an earlier thaw. The park typically closes the 45-mile network of gravel paths at the onset of “mud season” — Maine’s fifth season — to protect them from damage.
The Cadillac Summit Road will remain closed for now because of icy conditions. It will close for another three to seven days before May 22 to allow for repaving.
“We expect the 2024 summer season to be BUSY, so make sure to plan ahead and recreate responsibly while you’re here,” the park service said.
