Construction will begin at Pickering Square in Bangor next week.

Crews will be installing new sidewalk infrastructure and plaza pavers starting Monday, according to the city of Bangor.

New amenities will be added to the square, including seating, in-ground lighting and an art-display kiosk. Native trees and shrubs will be planted, better drainage installed and various electrical improvements made, the city said.

The first phase of the project will entail installing a temporary fence around the construction area.

That isn’t expected to hinder access to the parking garage or the pedestrian bridge over Kenduskeag Stream initially. Access will become limited as construction progresses.

The transit center and Community Connector bus service won’t be affected.

The contractor is Street’s Landscape & Lawn Care of Old Town.

Work is scheduled to be completed by Halloween.
