A kayaker was rescued Thursday after breaking leg when they flipped over in rapids on the Kennebago River.

Rescuers went to Boy Scout Road about 11 a.m. after learning a kayaker broke a leg on the Kennebago River, according to Rangeley Fire and Rescue.

They had to “bushwhack” to reach the kayaker who was helped to the riverbank by a bystander and the owner of River’s Edge in Oquossoc, Rangeley Fire and Rescue.

The kayaker was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
