Anyone in Dover-Foxcroft on Tuesday may have heard a loud boom.
The Maine State Police bomb squad was in town to detonate explosive material brought to the Dover-Foxcroft police station on Tuesday morning, according to the department.
In response to a question from the Bangor Daily News, the police department described the explosives as “old blasting material” that was brought in for disposal.
It was scheduled to be detonated in a “controlled and safe” location about 12:30 p.m., but Dover-Foxcroft police said that “it will likely be heard throughout town.”
No additional information was immediately available.
