AARP Maine and Legal Services for Maine Elders are hosting an event Thursday in Bangor that features a keynote address by elder justice advocate Philip Marshall, whose grandmother was philanthropist Brooke Astor, a seasonal Northeast Harbor resident.

Marshall’s father, Anthony Marshall, was convicted of grand larceny after being accused of diverting nearly $1 million from his mother, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marshall will share his story at the event, Dark Secrets: The Terrible Truth About Elder Abuse, at Gracie Theatre at Husson University. The keynote is at 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and will be followed by a on-site broadcast of Maine Public’s Maine Calling radio program.

Attendees must register in advance and can also watch it over Zoom.
