A Bangor police officer caused a crash on Monday that sent a child to the hospital with minor injuries after the officer made a U-turn into oncoming traffic.
The crash happened near the intersection of Finson Road and Ohio Street, Bangor police Sgt. Jason McAmbley said in a news release.
McAmbley said the officer was responding to a call for assistance from another Bangor officer and tried to turn around in the road. He failed to see an oncoming vehicle and hit it, causing it to roll over twice.
A child in the car was brought to a hospital for minor injuries, and the male driver did not require treatment, McAmbley said.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is reconstructing the crash and investigating the incident, McAmbley said.
Police have not released any additional details about the crash or the people involved.
