A llama that escaped from its owner’s property returned on its own Thursday.

The Bangor Police Department’s animal control officer responded to a call saying the llama was heading toward Stillwater Avenue.

The llama, who was named Jeffrey according to Lt. (Ret) Tim Cotton of the Bangor Police Department, escaped when its owner opened the gate to let in a veterinarian with a specialty in equine dentistry.

“It is possible that Jeffrey hasn’t kept up on brushing and flossing twice a day and was embarrassed that the whole barn would soon know,” Cotton wrote on Facebook.

The llama returned before the animal control officer arrived, Cotton said.
