A Maine State Police trooper was hospitalized Saturday after his cruiser was struck by another vehicle during a traffic stop, according to police.

Just after 7:30 p.m. trooper Patrick Flanagan had pulled over a car driving south near the mile-32 marker on Interstate I-95 in Biddeford when his cruiser was rear-ended, Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a statement. The crash forced Flanagan’s cruiser into the car he had pulled over. Both Flanagan and the driver that struck him, 25-year-old Xianying Yu, of Alston, were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Yu received a summons for failure to keep right while driving, Moss said.

The crash was the third reported collision involving a Maine State police car this weekend.
