The Husson University football team rebounded from its 76-7 drubbing at the hands of Springfield College last weekend with a 38-22 victory Saturday over Norwich University at Sabine Field in Northfield, Vermont.
Junior quarterback Max Clark completed 16 of 22 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and Cameron Cornett returned a kickoff 92 yards for an important third-quarter touchdown to seal the Husson win.
Husson is now 2-1, while Norwich is 0-3.
Clark threw TD passes of 73 and five yards to Ja’Quan Myles, and Lavar Hunter scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 17-yard run as the Eagles raced out to a 21-0 lead in the first half.
Aidan Sullivan tossed a 74-yard TD pass to Connor McFarland to pull Norwich within 14 at the half.
Cason Markevich extended the lead to 24-7 early in the second half, but the Cadets responded with a three-yard TD run by Jehric Hackney.
But sophomore wide receiver Cornett returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards to give the Eagles some valuable breathing room.
Hunter expanded the lead early in the fourth quarter with a 51-yard TD run before Norwich’s Henri Bourque capped the scoring by catching a six-yard pass from Sullivan.
Hunter rushed for a game-high 98 yards on 10 carries and Jed Lober had 85 on 24.
Cullen Casey had seven catches for 53 yards and Myles had six for 136 yards. C.J. Nicely had a game-high nine tackles to spark the Husson defense and Ethan Turgeon and Bryce Bussell had six each.
Sullivan completed 23 of 35 passes for 292 yards. McFarland had eight receptions for 153 yards and Bourque had seven for 53. Sullivan was the leading rusher with 27 yards on eight carries.
Simon Taraska and Jeremy Henault had eight and seven tackles, respectively, for Norwich.
Husson will travel to play Anna Maria College next Saturday at 1:30 in Paxton, Mass.
The two teams played a wild contest last fall with Husson emerging with a 50-49 win.
