A woman who was found dead in a Bangor home on Wednesday was killed, Bangor police said on Thursday.

Police received a report at just after 9 a.m. Wednesday of a potential death at a house on Larkin Street and said a co-worker had gone to the home after the woman did not arrive at work.

There they found the body of a woman, identified on Thursday after a post-mortem examination as 39-year-old Virginia Cookson of Bangor.

As a result of the examination, the manner of death was determined to be homicide, Det. Lieutenant Brent Beaulieu of the Bangor Police Department said in a news release.

Police have not released any details about the manner of death, circumstances or suspects. Beaulieu said no additional information will be released now because the incident is still under investigation.
