Officials have determined that the death of a child on Vinalhaven in July was from medical causes and not related to foul play, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine State Police.

The 1-year-old child was found unresponsive in the island community on July 10. That led to a police investigation that is standard procedure following child deaths in Maine.

Determining the cause of the death took the state medical examiner’s office some time because toxicology reports can take months to complete, Moss said.
