One person is dead after a Monday morning house fire in Bangor.

Firefighters responded after 5 a.m. at the home on Fairways after a neighbor called 911. Flames reached high above the roof and could be seen from a distance.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

Greg Hodge, assistant fire chief, told the Bangor Daily News that one person died in the fire, but he could not disclose the identity.

The Maine fire marshal’s office is investigating the blaze. A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety couldn’t be immediately reached Monday morning.
