Overnight snow will turn to freezing rain on Tuesday morning. The storm was expected to drop about 1-2 inches of snow over Greater Bangor and as much as a 10th of an inch of freezing rain. You can find the latest closings, cancellations and delays here.

A neighborhood of tiny homes could be part of the solution to Bangor’s housing problem. So far, 13 tenants have moved into the one-bedroom homes that charge $1,300 a month for rent.

Bangor’s homeless encampment in the wooded area behind the Hope House Health and Living Center won’t close until February. City councilors approved the extension Monday night after learning that plans to develop permanent supportive housing would take longer than anticipated.

A business owner that left downtown Ellsworth may hold onto the building, a former Masonic Lodge hall. Desert Harvest, owned by Heather Florio, moved its operations out of 192 Main St. and back to Colorado due to shipping complications.

If you’re looking for budget- and eco-friendly options this winter, you can forage for holiday decorations. Making wreaths or other decorative projects with evergreens and berries harnesses the materials you can easily gather on your own. 

These books would be great gifts for any outdoors enthusiast, Outdoors columnist V. Paul Reynolds writes in this week’s column. Books make a  personal gift and, best of all, are within a price range that is reasonable.

Some people may say that they’re pests, but opossums are much less of a nuisance than weasels or skunks. The critters don’t have a track record of being aggressive to cats and dogs, and are very unlikely to carry rabies, so they won’t do much harm if you let one hang around your property.

If you’ve never heard a Maine lynx yowling, this video will give you the heebie-jeebies. The two cats caught on camera are having words with each other, and are completely oblivious to the humans mesmerized by the sound.
