A Massachusetts man was ejected Monday morning when he crashed on Interstate 95 in Bangor.

Kenneth Cartledge, 25, of Beverly, Massachusetts, was driving a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck south on I-95 near mile marker 181 about 6:55 a.m. when he lost control, crossed the median into the northbound lanes and overturned, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Cartledge, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and lying in the road, where passers-by rendered first aid until first responders arrived, Moss said.

The crash blocked both northbound lanes, causing traffic to come to a standstill.

The interstate reopened to normal traffic flow just before 7:30 a.m., Chandler Corriveau, an assistant chief of the Bangor Fire Department, told the Bangor Daily News.

Cartledge was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, according to Moss.

Moss said that the investigation suggests Cartledge was driving too fast for the road conditions.

No additional information was immediately available.
