One of Waldo County’s three elected commissioners has died.

Commissioner William “Bill” Shorey died at his home in Searsport on Thursday, the county announced.

He “passed away peacefully at home this morning, surrounded by his loving family,” Commission Chairperson Betty Johnson said.

Shorey represented communities in the northeastern part of the county, including Frankfort, Jackson, Monroe, Prospect, Searsport, Swanville, Stockton Springs and Winterport.

He had served in the role since 2009, according to the Midcoast Villager.

Sasha Ray previously covered Waldo County for the BDN.
