A Rockland man was charged with operating under the influence after an early-morning crash Saturday that cut electrical service to homes and businesses in Rockland and Owls Head.

Steven Stirewalt, 36, drove into a utility pole on Main Street at about 12:30 a.m. causing power outages to 1,379 homes and businesses in Rockland and 1,245 in neighboring Owls Head, the Midcoast Villager reported.

Stirewalt was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage crash, Rockland Police told the newspaper.

Power was restored just before 3 a.m., the Villager reported.
