I enjoyed the recent article in the BDN on Joan Benoit Samuelson’s 1984 historic marathon for women. Amazingly and sadly, women athletes are still having to fight for gender parity in sports. The women’s 1,500 meter swim was only recently added ( Tokyo, 2021); Katie Ledecky and Erica Sullivan went first and second.

It took 47 years after the Samuelson run. How many more sports are still behind and how many more years will it take?
