A woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking in Fairfield on Saturday evening.

The 38-year-old woman was walking with traffic on Six Rod Road toward Oakland about 5:45 p.m. when a driver in a mid-size black sedan hit her, according to Officer Casey J. Dugas, a spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department.

The driver then fled, Dugas said Monday.

The woman was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer campus in Waterville with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Dugas said that the section of road where the hit-and-run happened was dark and the woman was wearing dark clothing.

The crash remains under investigation.
