Ask a Maine ice fisherman what the best trap is and you could get a variety of answers.

Maine fishermen tend to feel strongly about what style and even brand of ice fishing gear they use — especially traps.

Fishermen use everything from traps that are handmade by craftsmen to homemade in their own workshops in pursuit of Maine’s many game fish.

Some of the familiar names in Maine are Jack traps and Heritage traps, both designed and manufactured in the state, but they are only two of several brands that fishermen use.

We want to know what your favorite trap is and what makes it stand out among the many types of traps out there. Is there any special reason why you chose that one in particular?
