PRESQUE ISLE, Maine -- March 31, 2023 -- Pride Aroostook members hold a rally to support trans and queer youth autonomy in solidarity with the Wabanaki Two-Spirit Alliance, Queer Youth Assemble, and Maine Transgender Network on a cold day on March 31 in Presque Isle. (Paul Bagnall | The Star-Herald)

Each one of us in Maine has met someone who is transgender. We may not even know it.

Transgender people have a mother and father, as we do. They have brothers or sisters, family and friends who love them. They may be our coworkers. They work and struggle and have dreams, just as we do.

Kindness matters. As Mainers we can do better than what we are seeing in Washington. Remember Maine is the way life should be.
