A subject is barricaded in a home near the University of Maine at Machias campus.
The university sent out an alert to the campus community on Wednesday morning saying police are converging on Lyons Street, where a subject is barricaded inside a residence.
That property is close to the campus, but officials said the situation is contained and no threat is expected to the public.
A spokesperson for the Maine State Police confirmed the agency is assisting Machias police.
People have been advised to avoid the area.
