Police narrowed the northbound side of Interstate 95 in Pittsfield to one lane after a crash on Friday afternoon.
The crash was reported at 4:05 p.m., Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte said in a news release.
A tractor trailer driven by Serhii Milchecko, 47, of Nova Scotia, was rear-ended by a Kia sedan, driven by a 17-year-old from Winslow. A Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 35-year-old Desiree Chenette, of Lincoln, then hit the rear end of the Kia, Turcotte said.
Both cars were significantly damaged. The 17-year-old and Chenette were treated by emergency medical services at the scene and released.
No information was provided about Michecko or damage to the tractor trailer.
Turcotte did not state the cause of the crash but included a reminder to motorists to “drive distraction-free and maintain a safe following distance between your vehicle and others to ensure a safer road for everyone.”
The crash was the second on the Maine interstate system on Friday afternoon.Two hours before the Pittsfield crash, a tractor trailer rolled over in southern Maine on the westbound Falmouth Spur (I-495) blocking all lanes.
