First responders and other public safety personnel on Mount Desert Island are planning to conduct an island-wide mass casualty training exercise this weekend at the local high school.

The exercise will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, according to the Bar Harbor Fire Department, which posted the information on Facebook.

There will be “many emergency vehicles and helicopters in the area of the high school and moving about MDI,” the department wrote. “This is a planned exercise that all MDI public safety agencies are participating in.”

Other agencies that will take part in the training session include Hancock County, MDI Hospital, Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, LifeFlight of Maine and Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, officials said.

Parking lots at the high school by the gym and the baseball field will be restricted to exercise participants, but the public will have access to the high school track and back parking lot while the exercise is underway, they said.
