On the one hand we have Vice President JD Vance, the anti-immigrant evangelist, meeting with Pope Francis the day before he dies. The pope was known for advocating for immigrants and the poor.

On the other we have Secretary of State Marco Rubio, slashing away at our capacity to deal with the rest of the world and to compete successfully against both Russia and China for hearts, minds and economic influence. Furthermore there is the obnoxious treatment of Canada, Europe, China, and Greenland.

I think this administration’s diplomacy is as terrible as its stewardship of our health, our environment, economy, civil service, system of justice, and our national security. We must pay attention to diplomacy along with all the others.
